Wusthof knives are made in Solingen, Germany, the knife capital of the world when it comes to high grade European knives.

Blades are made using common western steel known as 1.4116. This was one of the early “Stainless Steel” adopters adding a high amount of chromium and slightly reducing the Carbon content to ensure the knife wouldn’t chip or rust.

As a large brand Wusdtof uses a variety of different handle materials however is best known for its knife baring the African Blackwood, also known as Grenadilla wood.

The Best Knife Maintenance approach is the Western Approach, you can use your rod daily to re-shape the edge and when sharpening you can operate a higher speed whetstone wheel. Due to its low carbon, it is more malleable than Japanese style knives so it will get duller faster. It needs regular honing.
